Bookbinder artisan Dyani Evans from Little Deer Studio

This is me – Dyani Evans – the heart & soul behind Little Deer Studio.

Artisan. Bookbinder. Treehugger. Animal lover. Veggie grower. Traveller. Camping enthusiast.

I am passionate about protecting our beautiful Earth and treating all the creatures who share it with kindness and respect, and I always try to ensure that the materials I use are environmentally sustainable and ethically produced.

When my search for more eco-friendly materials led me to start making my own recycled paper from junk mail and other scraps,  I knew I had discovered my true calling.

Handmade paper has such a beautiful earthy texture, and no two pieces are ever the same. I love its uniqueness, its rawness, the feel and the smell of it.

And I love that being able to create my own means nothing is wasted, and even the smallest scraps from my projects can be recycled into new sheets and given new life.

handmade gratitude journals by Little Deer StudioLittle Deer Studio is the realisation of a long-held dream of mine.

In 2011, after many years of discontent, I finally worked up the courage to ditch my medical career to follow my dreams of living a more creative, soul-satisfying life.

My family and colleagues thought I was mad, but I’m a huge believer in the importance of being true to yourself and following your heart, because life is way too short to be wasted by regret.

Since choosing this path, I am more content than I have ever been.

I have come to embrace a simpler, less materialistic way of life, and as a result, I feel more connected to the environment and the people around me.

I want to inspire and encourage others to do the same. Don’t suppress your dreams – go after them!  Don’t get so caught up in the whirlwind of modern society and others’ expectations that you become disconnected from what matters most to you.  Embrace life and make the most of it while you can.
